Sexual Assault/Rape
Sexual assault is any unwanted sexual contact or attention achieved by force, threats, bribes, manipulation, pressure, tricks or violence. Sexual assault may be physical or non-physical and includes rape and attempted rape, child molestation and incest, and sexual harassment.
Strangers and, more often, acquaintances, friends or relatives commit sexual assault. Anyone can become a victim of sexual assault, regardless of age, race or income level. Rape has nothing to do with attractiveness, appearance or behavior.
Rape and sexual assault are about power, control, and anger and are crimes of violence. These crimes are not motivated by sexual desire. Rapists use sexual violence as a weapon to control, humiliate and hurt their victims. Sexual assault is a crime of violence, anger and control that hurt both victims and those who love them. Sexual assault of any type is never the victim's fault. No one ever "asks for" or deserves to be sexually assaulted.
